LPP contributes to the activities of the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) within Spoke 3, which is dedicated to the assessment and monitoring of biodiversity and its evolution in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems through the integration of traditional taxonomic approaches, genomic methodologies, and citizen science activities.
Within the project, LPP investigates past plant biodiversity to better understand the long-term dynamics that have shaped present-day habitats.
The main activities include: (i) the standardisation of floristic and pollen lists contained in the BRAIN database to ensure data comparability and support the identification of non-native taxa; (ii) taxonomic and biogeographical studies aimed at defining the status of native, introduced, naturalised, and invasive species within the Italian flora; and (iii) the integration of palaeoecological and modern floristic datasets to reconstruct long-term processes of plant introduction, spread, and management, as well as their relationships with human activities.
